Championing smoke-free environments in China
As a technology company, Baidu really hopes to take advantage of its unique technology, especially on artificial intelligence to play a valuable role in tobacco control. Baidu will constantly try and explore innovative technology solutions.
Baidu is a Chinese Internet search engine company established in 2000. Baidu’s co-founder and CEO is known for his “zero tolerance” smoking policy in the company, and is one of China’s most prominent advocates of tobacco control, particularly in establishing smoke-free workplaces. Since its founding in 2000, the company has had smoke-free policies to uphold its commitment to safeguarding people’s health from the harms of tobacco use. At present, the company employs about 44 000 individuals and serves clients globally.
As a technology company, Baidu also explores the use of artificial intelligence for tobacco control. The company developed an online platform to help its employees quit smoking. In the future, Baidu hopes that this technology can also be used by others to reduce their tobacco use and eventually to quit smoking.
The company is continuously working with partners locally and worldwide to ensure that people are protected from the harms of tobacco use. Baidu formed a strategic partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2011 to work towards a healthier China. The company encourages greater collaboration among other businesses to champion tobacco control and safeguard the health and general well-being of the public.
